Nelson Mandela - Living the Legacy

In honor of the passing of Nelson Mandela, I write this post. My husband served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has loved Nelson Mandela for as long as I have known him {on our first 'hang out' he told me he wanted to name a son after him!}. He did a tribute post on Facebook and, in it, was the following quote.

I wish I could write a long post about Nelson Mandela...his life...his legacy, but I am sad to say I don't know very much about him. Only what Conrad has told me, which is enough to know he fought for equality of all people, democracy and learning. While on trial, facing the death penalty, he said:

“I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
